First Time At Main Street?
Where should I park?
We have two parking lots, one off Main Street and one off Fifth Street. There are visitor parking spots in both parking lots. There are handicap parking spaces just off the Fifth Street parking lot, near the outside entrance to the elevator. There is a ramp off the Main Street entrance.
What door should I come in?
On Sunday mornings for Sunday school and worship, and during weekday office hours, the 5th Street and Main Street doors are open. If you are coming to the office during the week, please use the door off the 5th Street parking lot (across from Koehler’s).
What if walking is a challenge for me?
For the shortest walk to the sanctuary or the office without using stairs, take the elevator from the 5th Street parking lot up to the third floor and follow signs for the sanctuary or the church office.
What should I wear?
There’s no dress code at Main Street United Methodist Church. On Sunday mornings for church, some people wear button-down shirts or skirts, while others wear jeans and nice t-shirts. You’ll fit in either way.
What is church like at Main Street?
On Sunday mornings, we meet in the sanctuary in the church building. We often sing traditional hymns and use instruments like piano and organ and violin, but sometimes we sing more recently written songs and use instruments like guitar and cajon (a type of hand drum). We have a chancel choir that often sings, and a youth band that sometimes plays. We share prayer requests and listen to readings from the Bible, and the minister preaches a sermon.
Our Wednesday evening worship service, Worship Without Walls, is a pop-up worship service that meets different places throughout Boonville each week. It’s a simple, informal worship service, with a guitar and a Bible and some time for prayer. We often sit on folding chairs. The preaching is very interactive, with everyone invited to share their thoughts during the sermon. We share the location of each week’s Worship Without Walls that Monday through social media. Check out our Facebook page [hyperlink] or Instagram [hyperlink] to find out where we’ll be this week!
What if I need to talk to a pastor?
Pastor Nicki would love to meet with you to talk and pray! Please contact the church office, (812) 897-3422 or office@mainstreetumcboonville.com to set up an appointment, or catch her after worship on Sunday morning or Wednesday evening.
How do I become a member of Main Street UMC?
We hold membership classes periodically throughout the year. We encourage you to come to worship for a few months and try out other ministries and service opportunities at the church, to see whether Main Street is a place that you feel you’ll be able to deepen spiritually. If it is, let the pastor know. He’d love to talk to you about becoming a member of Main Street United Methodist Church!
Will I be welcome?
You are welcome at Main Street United Methodist Church! We can’t wait to meet you.
